Harrison Shines

32 year-old Simon Harrison from Baldock, Hertfordshire has clinched one of the greatest titles in UK motorsport, claiming the 2001 British Touring Car Championship production crown.

The BFGoodrich Tires Production title of the UK's top motor racing series - seen by millions every fortnight on BBC Grandstand - fell to Harrison and his all-conquering Peugeot 306 GTi race car in a swathe of victories, top-three finishes and fastest lap awards, captured during an exhausting 26-race series over 25 weeks.

Aside from a super-quick race car, arguably Simon also had a head start over the competition, as his daytime job is a high-performance driving instructor at Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix.

However, he didn't have it all his own way, and only got his hands on the trophy and the winner's cheque for £5,000 - awarded by high performance tyre giants BFGoodrich Tires® - after the final round at Brands Hatch on Sunday, 7th October.

Simon's win is a huge achievement - his third Championship victory in four years - placing him as one of the most consistently successful motor racing drivers in the UK. Such hot property is unlikely to go unnoticed, and Simon's confident of being courted by top race team managers looking to sign him up for next year.

"It's a great feeling to come out tops in such a hugely competitive series," beamed Simon. "This is the best Championship win of my career and I'm determined to keep on up the ladder," he added.

If fact, Simon's already on his way, with a special one-off race appearance on Macau in Asia in four weeks time where, ironically, he will drive for the team who were his major opposition in this year's racing series. "Once you've beaten them, why not join them!" he quipped.
