Paul Radisich Thruxton Review

British Touring Car CHampionship Rounds 17 and 18 Sunday 2nd August 1998

It was a day of mixed fortune for Paul Radisich, claiming two points in round 17 but in contrast retiring from round 18 - the feature race - on the eighth lap.

Radisich had qualified in 13th spot for today’s first race, the 16 lap sprint, from where he made up a couple of places at the start, before the safety car was deployed on the second lap. Once the badly damaged Mondeo of fellow New Zealander, Craig Baird, ( Ford ) had been removed from the tyre wall and the field accelerated away when the safety car peeled off into the pits, Radisich maintained his ninth place over the remaining laps. The sprint race turned out to be a mainly processional race and produced no surprise results, Anthony Reid ( Nissan ) scoring another victory, to bring his points total closer to championship leader, Rickard Rydell.

From his 15th spot on the grid for round 18, Radisich again gained two places on the opening lap and by lap seven lay in eleventh position. Another top ten finish seemed a likely prospect until lap eight, when Radisich was forced to limp back to the pits with a broken steering arm.

Defending champion, Alain Menu, was back on form, winning round 18. He now lays second in the drivers championship.
