Tom Ferrier will drive a Triple Eight Race Engineering-run Vauxhall Astra Coupe in this year's British Touring Car Championship. At 19, Ferrier from Redhill, Surrey is the youngest recruit to the top-flight BTC Touring category. The former karting multiple champion will use an Astra Coupe identical to the Vauxhall Motorsport works team cars of Yvan Muller and Jason Plato in the 26 races which make up this year's premier British racing series.
Ferrier became the youngest ever BTCC driver when last season, at the age of 18 years and 287 days, the 1999 Formula Renault Sport Champion debuted in the second Brands Hatch round, beating James Thompson's record by almost 100 days.
"I'm really excited about my association with Vauxhall this year. It means a lot to me as a young driver and the experience will give me some great opportunities to learn from the experts like Yvan (Muller), Jason (Plato) and from the race engineers at Triple Eight," said Ferrier as he prepared for his first appearance in Vauxhall colours at the Birmingham NEC's Autosport International Show (Thursday, January 11). "This will be a learning year for me, but I intend to improve quickly and expect to be giving some meaningful support to the other Vauxhall Astra drivers by mid-season."
This year's British Touring Car Championship starts on Easter Monday (April 16) at Brands Hatch in Kent and features 13 double races at circuits around Britain and Ireland, including popular night races at Snetterton in Norfolk and Northampton's Silverstone circuit.
