VAUXHALL SLIP AS DUNLOP MAINTAINS GRIP IN FOOTBALL FRIENDLY

VX Racing's hopes of establishing themselves as masters in both track and field suffered a set back last night when arch-football rivals, Dunlop, beat the multiple British Touring Car Champions 3-2 in their not-so-friendly annual match.

Tension in the BTCC paddock had been building all season in preparation for the yearly get-together, which is hosted at near-by Mulbarton Wanderers and Belles Football Club in the run up to Snetterton's BTCC meeting.

The championship's one-make tyre supplier Dunlop pulled off a tactical master stroke, however, luring VX Racing's squad of managers, engineers and mechanics into a false sense of security by claiming not to have been in training all year.

Tom Chilton discussing team strategies

"I think we've been had!" said VX Racing's goal scorer and IT Manager, Dicki Walker. "We went into this match pretty relaxed and they just came from nowhere! I'm not sure they didn't bribe the officials as well because we could have pushed to at least four more goals if it wasn't for some dodgy off-side decisions!

"We did have a few personal victories though. Last year we lost on penalties when my shot was saved by Dunlop's goalie, Sam. This year I got two goals in, so I got my revenge!"

The Banbury-based squad was given moral support from the side-lines by drivers Tom Chilton and Fabrizio Giovanardi. "Our main problem was we didn't get the ball rolling enough," said Chilton who was charged with managerial duties for the side. "Our goal keeper was ace though; Dunlop looked like they could win by 8:3, but George made some fantastic saves."

Tough fights

Shamefully, though, match organisers failed to recognize VX Racing's goalie and Damper Technician George Wilks in the evening's prize giving. "Even though we lost I definitely enjoyed playing," said the magnanimous youngster. "I think we had some good moves but it wasn't meant to be."
