Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing face a race against time to repair and prepare Dan Eaves' car #85 in time for the Donington rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
The car was damaged on four separate occasions during the Thruxton weekend (April 25 & 26). The team returned to its Rugby base and was stripped down, a detailed inspection showed considerable damage to the car, both components and bodywork.
Colin Neill (Team Principal) said "It's going to be very tough to get the car ready for Donington, we sustained two front end impacts, one rear and in the last race front and side damage, including suspension. The cumulative effect has left us with a lot to do and not much time to do it. The pit crew did at fantastic job at Thruxton to get the car back on track for qualifying and the three races, the last race incident resulted in us having to order some replacement parts which have been delayed getting to us. The team is working flat out to get the car ready for May 16/17, but it's going to very tight that's for sure."
This is in contrast to car #9, which driven by Adam Jones finished the Thruxton weekend with a podium second place, having earned points in the first and second races of the day with 6 th & 8th place finishes respectively. Adam did a great job throughout the entire weekend and had some great battles and brought the car home comparatively clean. Jones no stranger to the podium during his previous BTCC campaigns, earned the team its first podium finish at only its second BTCC outing.
Comments from Adam Jones
"Obviously I am really pleased with how it went at Thruxton, we put a lot of time into preparing the car and working on different set-ups for each race and it paid off. It's great to get a podium so early in the season, for the team and me. I feel sorry for Dan it was just one of those things, I am sure I will get my fair share of back luck during the season, but with Birmingham City winning at Reading and getting promotion to the premiership it's been a good couple of weeks, I feel as a team we are capable of another podium or two before we return to Brands, given a bit of good luck."
Dan Eaves said of this return to the circuit where he became the only driver to win all three races in a race weekend, he remains the only driver to have done so.
"I can't believe what happened at Thruxton, it was as if all my bad luck came in one weekend, considering what happened last time I was there. It's been tough and I would like to thank all the fans and sponsors for their support over the past week or so. I have put it behind me and am focused on the next round at Donington. The guys at the factory have done a great job on the car I just hope it will be ready in time."
Jones' Thruxton performance puts the team in fourth place in the overall team Championship and third in the independents team Championship, the overall drivers standings Adam is sixth and second in the independent drivers standings, with Dan thirteenth and twelfth respectively, after his 3 DNF's at Thruxton.
