Infiniti withdraws from Support Our Paras team
Infiniti has parted company with the Support Our Paras Racing BTCC team due to “differing expectations” from the project after just three race weekends.
The team will continue to run its brace of NGTC Infiniti Q50s, despite the withdrawal of factory support from the luxury brand of Nissan.
The squad has suffered a difficult start to the season, with a best finish of 17th last time out at Thruxton for Derek Palmer Jr.
Support Our Paras Racing team principal Derek Palmer Sr explained: "Naturally we wish Infiniti well in the future, but the team is now in the strong position where it can refocus and concentrate on developing and growing the team in keeping with its core beliefs: that is delivering on-track, and raising funds for, and awareness of, Support Our Paras, the Parachute Regiment's official charity.
“We are preparing both cars for the triple header at Oulton Park. We now have a seat available in the second car. This is available from Oulton Park through not only the rest of this season, but the whole of 2016.
“Also, as the Infiniti 'sponsorship' branding will now be removed from both cars, there is now additional space for new, committed sponsors."
The announcement means that ex-Formula 1 driver Martin Donnelly, who made his BTCC bow driving for the team at Thruxton and picking up a best result of 19th, will not be on the grid for next weekend's Oulton Park round.
