Gordon Shedden took his second victory of the day with his Honda Racing teammate coming home in second, after overtaking main title challenger Jason Plato along the way to pick up extra valuable championship points.
Shedden led from start to finish, apart from one lap where he allowed Matt Neal to lead across the start-finish line to pick up one extra valuable point, which a driver will receive that leads at least one lap.
Shedden led from pole and although Rob Collard got the better start, "Flash" was able to defend his position into the first corner, which also allowed Plato through into second.
Collard was running in third, this was until lap 3 when he was the innocent party when Neal tried to go down the inside of Paul O'Neill, hitting O'Neill into Collard and spinning around the unlucky Collard.
Neal was unaffected by this and then caught and passed Plato on lap 8 when he dived down the inside of the Chevrolet, taking over second and dropping Plato to third.
Neal was clearly pleased with the pass and said after the race, "I noticed Plato's break lights flicker through Barcroft a couple of laps previous and then watched him through the next few laps, then I knew that was the place to do something."
Plato admitted that the pass was tough but fair and said, "he barrelled up the inside of me and used me as a kind of brake, but that's touring car racing."
The main and most exciting battle on track was for 4th between Tom Onslow-Cole and O'Neill who lost ground after the earlier clash with Collard. O'Neill was clearly quicker than the Ford but Onslow-Cole used the Focus' power advantage to pull away during the straight. This was until the final corner when somehow O'Neill passed down the inside of the hairpin using every inch of the track and maybe a bit more. As the pair turned in Onslow-Cole's left front touched the right rear of O'Neill but the smoking Honda Integra would take fourth.
Behind the battling top five there was an almighty train of cars aiming for a top ten finish, which was eventually won by the Seat Leon of Tom Boardman who put in a great display to come home sixth. He led home Andrew Jordan in 7th with the recovering Collard, Alex MacDowall's Chevrolet Cruze -- which looked more like a banger car at the front after wiping out the tyres at the chicane -- and the second WSR BMW of Andy Neat brought it home for the final point.
The main ones who suffered in race 2 were the pair of Airwaves BMW's. First Mat Jackson retired on lap 5 with what looked like broken rear suspension and then his teammate Stephen Kane retired on 6th with mechanical issues -- which could have been a result of running up the back of Boardman one too many times during the first half of the race. As a result the pair have lost valuable points in the championship and Airwaves has lost a lot of ground in the teams championship.
Another team to miss out were the Triple 8 pair of James Nash and Daniel Lloyd who tripped over each other at the hairpin, both running off track and losing a handful of places both finishing 13th and 14th.
In front of them were Tom Chilton, who continued to struggle and will be very disappointed not to score points for the second race running, and Martin Depper who must be greatly encouraged to finish 12th in his Forster Motorsport BMW.
The happiest man of the day so far is clearly Shedden and he said after the race: "Just awesome, I have waited all year for a victory and then two come around like buses. Despite carrying full ballast the car felt amazing throughout the race."
After the race, seeing as it is Father's Day, Shedden's dad made the draw for the reverse grid and he pulled out position seven which will mean Jordan will start on pole for the third race. Neal now heads into race 3 with an extended nine point lead over Plato but the biggest mover so far this weekend, unsprisingly, is Shedden and he now sits 3rd in the points -- 12 points behind Plato.
So don't forget to click back onto Motorsport.com in a few hours to see who will take the points lead as the season reaches its mid way stage. Will it be Plato or will Neal extend his lead yet further? Will Shedden make it a hat trick?
