DEPUTY MAYOR FULL OF PRAISE FOR WPS BATHURST MOTOR FESTIVAL

WPS Bathurst Motor Festival Event Director James O'Brien and Bathurst Regional Council Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ian North, spent some time on Main Straight at Mount Panorama today reflecting on the Festival's success.

Event Director James O'Brien said he was pleased with the success of the third running of the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival.

"The WPS Bathurst Motor Festival has again been a great success - in its third year of running the Event continues to grow and change," said O'Brien.

"You couldn't have found a better way to conclude the Festival than yesterday's action-packed WPS Bathurst 12 Hour -- what a great way that was to end the weekend.

"The WPS Bathurst 12 Hour will be the second major event in Bathurst, now that we have seen how well it is supported by the fans and the teams we are committed to ensuring it continues to grow with every year.

"We have started from the grass roots, we are only in our third year and our marketing strategy has as such been more advocacy than promotional as we look to grow this fledging event.

"The council have been and are great partners in this Event, they have been very pro-active in getting the Event underway - it has been very pleasing to see them investing so heavily in our Festival."

Councillor Ian North, Deputy Mayor of the Bathurst Regional Council, said O'Brien and his staff deserve congratulations for ensuring the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival continues to grow.

"James (O'Brien) has worked very closely with us during the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour and he and his staff, and of course the 300 odd volunteers that together make this event possible, all deserve our sincere congratulations for their effort," said Cr North.

"We had almost 30,000 people come through the gates here over the three days, and this is tremendous for the city of Bathurst.

"A lot of those people are staying in our hotels and eating at our restaurants as well as coming to and supporting the event. As such, this Event, the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival, is truly tremendous for Bathurst's economy."

The WPS Bathurst 12 Hour was the finale act for the WPS Bathurst Motor Festival, concluding at 6.43pm last night after 12 hours, with New South Wales' Damien White, Graham Alexander and Rod Salmon taking outright honours aboard their Mitsubishi EVO IX followed by Grant Denyer and Tony and Klark Quinn in their Mitsubishi EVO IX in second.

A three hour highlights package of the endurance Event will be broadcast on Channel Seven on Saturday the 16th of February from 2.00pm -- 5.00pm.
