Bathurst 12H: David Wall race report

Wall Racing finishes 4th in Bathurst 12-hour

Double Australian GT Champion David Wall and his Wall Racing Team have come home in 4th position in the 2011 Armor All Bathurst 12-hour.

Joining David in his #38 Wilson Security Porsche GT3 Cup S was his good friend Barton Mawer and 2006 Australian GT Champion, Greg Crick.

The team spent nearly every lap of the 12 hour endurance race chasing the two factory Audi R8 LMS GT3s and the brand new Porsche GT3 R of the Quinns and Craig Baird.

David, running in the same Wilson Security Porsche GT3 Cup S that he won the 2009 and 2010 Australian GT Championships in, began the race in 6th place before jumping up to 4th place in the first lap.

Sharing the driving with Barton and Greg, the Wall Racing team ran solidly throughout the race, not putting a foot wrong.

"We did everything we could this weekend but we just didn't have the speed to match the Porsche GT3 R or the Audis," said David.

"The only problem we had all weekend was the damage caused to the front of the car in scrutineering on Saturday.

"Barton and Greg drove really consistently, setting solid times even when it rained. It got a little hairy out there when we were on slicks in the heavy rain!

"With my new drive in the Fujitsu Series in the Wilson Security car, this weekend is probably my last race in this car so I am pleased to end on a high note!"

"I will be sorry to give my Cup S back to it's owner, it has almost become part of the family, but I am excited about the new season and am looking forward to the season kicking off at the Clipsal 500 with Wilson Security."

The family run Wall Racing team also ran the #39 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and shared a garage with the #43 Alan East Mitsubishi EVO IX GSR.

The combination of Paul Tressider, Shane Smollen and Simon Middleton in the #39 Porsche qualified strongly but encountered a number of problems through out the weekend before finishing in 15th overall and 4th in class.

The Easts Holiday Parks Mitsubishi also qualified well in 18th outright and 2nd in their class; however their race ended early with a car failure just before the eight hour mark.

Supporting David and the team at the Armor All Bathurst 12-hour will be loyal sponsors Wilson Security, Shannons and Mount Aqua, with Paynter Dixon also sponsoring the team.

Cheering the team on at the track will be a contingent of 70 people, with everyone from the car owners, mechanics, sponsors and family heading to the track and David is hoping to reward their support.
