ON AND OFF TRACK ACTION ENTERTAIN AT ARMOR ALL BATHURST 12 HOUR EVENT

ACTION AND ENTERTAINMENT has been a feature of the 2011 Armor All Bathurst 12 hour as the countdown to the race itself counts down.

Five support categories and a host of on and off-track entertainment have entertained crowds and corporate guests alike, despite having to brave 30-plus degree temperatures throughout the weekend.

Formula Vee kicked things off this morning, with Ryan Simpson winning their second race of the weekend in his Aussie-built Sabre 02. Tim Hamilton took the honours in the afternoon race after what could be affectionately be known as 'doing a Bradbury'.

As the field approached the line several leading contenders were eliminated in an action-packed finale' to the weekend for the youngsters and their open wheelers.

Things ran smoothly in the second Improved Production race, with Rick Newman taking the flag.

The same couldn't be said for the third and final race this afternoon, however, with many of the field involved in a game of pinball - bouncing off the walls and each other - forcing a red-flag.

The HQ Holden series showed why they are still popular with fans, racing shoulder to shoulder through their second race of the event and often two and three abreast for several corners at the time. Kevin Stoopman in the Trik Trailers HQ took line honours, with Matt Boulter winning their finale'.

Group N Historic Touring Cars saw Grant Wilson in his Camaro win from Cam Worner and Ethan Lind also on the podium. History repeated itself as the top three remained in the same, for their third and final race of the weekend.

Troy Stapleton took the victory in race two for Group A and C, before Garry Collins and his Protrack Automotive Performance Holden Commodore VL won race three, the return of the Historic touring cars giving fans a taste of things Bathurst past.

A special moment came today when Dick Johnson jumped into the Bathurst-winning Peter Brock / Jim Richards classic Holden Torana A9X for a forthcoming TV / media feature. The Australian motorsport legend completed two laps of the 6.2km circuit, adding a sense of nostalgia to the event.

On-track displays of drifting, car club parade laps and more completed an action-packed two days, before the Armor All Bathurst 12 hour itself begins at 6:15am tomorrow.
