BATHURST CONFIDENCE FOR TEAM WITH TOP PEDIGREE
WITH practice for Sunday's 2010 Armour All Bathurst 12 Hour production car event due to start tomorrow, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart (TMR) supremo Alan Heaphy is relishing the challenge of claiming a third straight title.
"We're as prepared as we'll ever be. We'll see what happens tomorrow and reassess everything after each session and see what we need to change if anything," Heaphy said after the new colour scheme for the number one car was unveiled to the media and public in Mount Panorama's historic pit lane today.
Heaphy was all smiles as the covers came off the Pedigree Pet Foods Evo X. The unveiling gave TMR Australia the opportunity to check out some of their opposition including the Shelby Mustang to be driven by Jason Bright.
"I think the challenges could come from the rest of the Evo brigade, be they either Evo 8s or 9s or the other Xs like ours. There's some good driver line ups in some of those. But I suppose anybody in the field is a challenge to us."
The predicted changeable weather is likely to throw curve balls to all teams this weekend nevertheless Heaphy is well prepared.
"We'll have to have a look at that as we go. You've got to be able to move on your feet at that part of the day. You can't really have a dry or wet setup; it's one or the other. If it's a wet race or a wet/dry race it will be fantastic because guys will think about wet tyres and that sort of thing," Heaphy said.
He is a great believer in the adage, "If you want a great motor race just add water."
If it does rain, The Pedigree Pet Foods Evo has the drivers to cope. Rod Salmon and Damien White are shooting for a third straight outright 12 Hour win. The third driver is highly experienced New Zealander Ian "Inky" Tulloch.
"His racecraft is excellent. He's well matured is his driving and that's what you need to have in this event over that length of time," Heaphy said.
The second TMR Australia Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X RS, sponsored by West Surfing Products, will be driven by Warren Luff along with Glyn Crimp and Stuart Kostera.
First practice for the Bathurst 12 Hour is tomorrow morning.
