Calder Park support series race report

Commodore Cup
Without strong contender Neville Haley (throttle problems in the warmup) alongside, Geoff Emery charged away to an easy win in the first of two Commodore Cup races at Calder Park Raceway. David Gittus held a tentative second place ahead of Craig Domaschenz before both were passed by Marcus Zukovanic who finished second. Gittus held onto third fending off Domaschenz's every attempt to get by while Andrew McInnes held off Kane Rose for fifth place.

Emery started the second race off in similar fashion, however Zukovanic was able to launch a lead challenge by lap three, taking over the front running and going onto win. Again Gittus held off Domaschenz who tried everything to get past.

Daewoo Challenge
Michael Goode was an easy winner in the first of two Kumho Tyres Daewoo Challenge races where polesitter John Pagonas muffed the start and shortly after crashed out of the event. Fancied runner Ian Kegg ran off at the first corner, resuming at the rear while Richard Hing took second ahead of Chris Oxley and Richard Buttrose. Kegg was determined not to fault in the second race, leading Francisco Valles, Hing and Oxley around the first time. Valles dropped back in the ensuing laps while Hing sampled the lead briefly only to have Kegg win it back and take the race.

HQ Holdens
In the first of three races Geoff Harris gained the start-line advantage over the pole man Dale Bennett who was subsequently involved in a first turn incident that relegated him to the rear. Harris led until coming unstuck at the final corner. That allowed Dallas Crane through to win from John Moore, Tracey Moulden and Gavin Ross. Crane was best away in the second race but held third as Moore bolted away from Moulden who appeared to have Crane in check until brought undone. Ross snuck into second place ahead of Crane and Brendan Woods. Moore dominated the last by an even larger margin as Kevin Stoopman came through to beat Ross for second.

Truck Co-Drivers Cup
There was three races rather than two because two rounds ago one race had to be cancelled. Albert Sieders (MAN) led all the way in the first, beating home brother Bill, also in a MAN. However the latter was excluded later for not having a tackograph thus putting Nigel Valois second and Bob Middleton. Bill Sieders made up for the indiscretion in the second by coming though from the rear to beat Valois and Albert Sieders. In the last, another reverse grid affair, the latter stormed through to lead into turn one but went wide. That allowed Middleton the lead for the duration over Valois with Albert Sieders demoting Bill before the race's end.
