SHANNONS AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Race One: Continuing his qualifying momentum, David Ryan has easily accounted for the best field of the season in the first race of the fourth round of the Shannon's Australian Production Car Championship at Eastern Creek yesterday.

From pole position, Ryan executed a faultless start in his Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo, pulled a good lead on the opening lap, and maintained the gap for the entire six laps. In the meantime, Scott Anderson successfully fended off the early challenges of Nick Dunkley (Falcon Turbo) and the Honda S2000 to bring the Elf Holden Commodore V8 home second while Russell slipped past Dunkley mid-race for third.

There was limited competition in Class B once Steve Briffa passed series leader Colin Osborne. Briffa (Toyota Celica) simply drove away from the similar Toyota whilst Osborne's team mate Trevor Keene was passed by Rick Bates in the Toyota Corolla Sportivo. Allan Shephard started from the back in his Honda Integra, passed all the Class C cars before a spin pushed him down the order again.

After pinching pole off Class A leader Daniel Natoli (Proton Satria), Leigh Mertens (Proton) maintain his advantage throughout while Dane Rudolph (Citroen) failed to hold off Marty Doxey (Holden Astra).

The Ford Focus of Darren Best followed clear of the David Mertens Holden Vectra while the girl battle between Teigan Butchers (Proton) and Lauren Gray (Toyota Echo Sportivo) went the way of the latter with a last lap pass.

Race Two: David Ryan, Leigh Mertens and Steve Briffa benefited significantly in race two of the fourth round of the Shannon's Australian Production Car Championship at Eastern Creek today. The respective Ford Falcon Turbo, Proton Satria and Honda Integra Type R drivers were class winners -- each upsetting their respective Class A, C and B leaders.

For Ryan who started 50 seconds after the Class C cars in the weekend's first of two handicap races, it was the perfect race as he hit the lead with three laps to go and cruised to victory. Class A rivals Scott Anderson (Holden Commodore) and Drew Russell claimed the minor outright positions as long time race leader Mertens finished fourth head of Nick Dunkley's Falcon.

Briffa was next well clear of Class B leader Colin Osborne in another Toyota Celica while Class A Marty Doxey (Holden Astra) not only split Osborne and team mate Trevor Keene but also relegated Daniel Natoli (Proton) to a Class C third. Allan Shephard, a Class B winner at the previous round, followed ahead of the Darren Best Ford Focus which got the upper hand over Dane Rudolph's Citroen Xsara late in the event.

Lauren Gray (Toyota Echo Sportivo), the Holden Vectra (Holden Vectra) and Teigan Butchers in a Proton completed the regular series competitors while Geoff Kingston won the Class B Trophy division in a Toyota MR2.

Race Three: With a win in the final race of the fourth round of the Shannon's Australian Production Car Championship, David Ryan has completed a clean sweep of both outright and class victories at Eastern Creek this weekend.

Starting some 50 seconds after the small engined Class C cars, his Class A Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo cut through them and the Class B brigade and easily won his third race of the weekend. In the end it was Class C filling the first four outright positions as Drew Russell (Honda S2000) wore down the brakeless Elf Holden Commodore of Scott Anderson which finished third.

As they breasted the finish line, Nick Dunkley (Falcon) pipped Class C winner Leigh Mertens who's Proton Satria was another with a perfect score sheet for the weekend. Class leader Daniel Natoli (Proton) had a race he would rather forget after being turned around on the second corner of race one.

Any chance of Steve Briffa claiming a third Class B victory in the Thirty Toyota Celica disappeared with spark plug issues from the start. His car owner Allan Shephard (Honda Integra) came off third best when squeezed at the start by Trevor Keene (Celica) and Rick Bates (Toyota Corolla Sportivo). In the meantime series leader was able to shoot away for a Class B win and sixth outright.

Martin Doxey (Holden Astra) was second in Class C and seventh outright, finishing just fractions of a second ahead of Keene and Bates. Then followed Dane Rudolph (Citroen) and Natoli who had a great last quarter scrap with Lauren Gray in her Toyota Echo Sportivo. Darren Best suffered mechanical ailments in the concluding stages and limped home ahead of Teigan Butchers (Proton), Briffa and the Toyota MR2 of Geoff Kingston.

PRODUCTION CAR RESULT CHANGES:

Subject to any likely appeal, David Ryan who won all races as well as Class A, has been excluded from race two and three. His Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo was alleged to have over boosted. As a result Scott Anderson had been declared the winner of race two while Drew Russell has taken out race three.
