2002 Power Tour
Qualifying -- Australian Future Tourer Series Rd 2 -- Mallala Raceway -- April 19-21

Commodores fill five of the top six spots.

Holden Commodores have been the dominant marque in qualifying for round two of the Australian Future Tourers series qualifying at Mallala Raceway with series leader Ray Sidebottom showing the way in his APS Racing VX and 1.6 seconds under the lap record.

Next best in the older model VS was Tasmanian Tim Shaw. Shaw rejoined the category this year and after a second in the first race at the opening round, was ousted for the remainder with blown rear main seal.

It was up to NSW Mitsubishi Magna driver Terry Bosnjak to prevent a complete Holden whitewash. It was expected that the combination would perform because Bosnjak won the third race at the round one Oran Park opener.

"They (Sidebottom and Shaw) have been racing in this category a lot longer than us, and their cars are very well sorted. Besides we are around 100 kilograms over the weight limit, so once we can trim that out we should be more than competitive," Bosnjak said later.

South Australian Mark Papendell will start his Commodore VS out of position four and ahead of the later model VT of Shanan Sidebottom and Mark Sutherland's VS.

The fastest Ford was the Falcon AU of Leanne Ross who only managed a first session time before having an blow-up. Andrew Gillespie was only a tenth slower in his earlier model EL while Amin Chahda in a Falcon EF was the next of the Fords.
