Fresh from a strong fifth place in last Sunday's Phillip Island 50K plate, Springvale's own Stephen Vines goes into this weekends Australian Sports Sedan Championship at Sandown International Raceway full of confidence.
"The new engine has completely transformed the car" said Stephen at Phillip Island. " We now have so much torque and that will be perfect at a power circuit like Sandown".
Vines' All Ford V8 powered Gypsum Australia/Torero underwear, Cortina will challenge a huge field of Australia's fastest Sports Sedans over 2 races at Sandown as part of the first ever V8 Ultimate meeting, and the final round of this years Australian Sports Sedan championship.
While the top national cars have the edge in terms of technology, with their spaceframe chassis and mid mounted 6 litre engines, Vines' Cortina is very reliable, and it's heavier weight makes it well suited to the sort of wet conditions forecast for this weekend.
Kerry Bailey's Nissan 300ZX/Chev is locked in a fierce battle with Series leader, young Western Australian Tony Ricciardello in the Alfa/Chev, the pair to face major challenges from Vines, Cortina last Sunday's 50K plate winner Dean Randle in the SAAB/Chev, the similar car of ex V8 Supercar driver Darren Hossack and the big Jaguar XKR of Sydney driver Daniel Jameson.
The 700 BHP Sports Sedans will take to the track Friday at 11.25 am and at 2.20pm for their official qualifying. Race 1 of the weekend is on Saturday at 3.15pm with Race 2 on Sunday at 2.15 pm.
With free paddock admission, Stephen Vines Racing welcomes all local fans to come to the pit area and say hi. Weekend results at www.racetime.com.au. Photos of the event and last Sunday's spectacular Island Magic meeting are at www.inetpics.com
