PRODUCTIVE START FOR DECINA RACING IN QUEENSLAND

A tradesman like performance from the Speed FX/Decina Racing outfit has set the team for a solid third round outing in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

Sydney driver Michael Caruso expertly guided the Decina Falcon into the top nine during the second of two practice sessions, but it was the effort of the crew during the interim that has set the tempo for a positive weekend.

Qualifying will be initiated among the top half of the huge 41-car field, thanks to some crafty work behind the scenes that was much appreciated by Caruso.

"The entire team dug in for two and a half hours adjusting the set up of the Decina Falcon and the changes were rewarded with some competitive times set during the second session," said Caruso.

"Even still I know there's improvement in the car which is a great sign.

"I'm happy where we finished up. I'd rather be working up the order than down it so ninth gives us something to work from.

"It's been a magnificent job from all the guys to get us up towards the pointy end and we'll look to continue the roll on during qualifying and all three races."

Team owner Jim Morton managed a wry smile at the conclusion of today's proceedings, full in the knowledge his Speed FX/Decina Racing troops appear to be taking an 'A' grade approach to the weekend assignment.

"The effort of the boys to pull together and give Michael the best possible opportunity today is a great confidence booster," confirmed Morton.

"A lot of the teams in front of us use this track for testing so as the weekend wears on I'm confident we'll make up the necessary ground.

"I'm more than comfortable with where we are, I'm sure we can get ourselves among the top 10 in qualifying but the priority is for a good race set up so we'll continue to chip away and get everything in order before we start contesting for points."

Mark Porter topped the combined practice timesheets today followed by Wayne Wakefield and Series leader Adam Macrow.
