POINTS AND EXPERIENCE FOR DEXION'S TIM SLADE AT WAKEFIELD

round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship at Wakefield Park Raceway, but has come away with more championship points for his rookie campaign.

21-year-old Slade, who lives in Melbourne but hails from South Australia, was contesting just his second ever V8 Supercar round this weekend and whilst less than half a second off the pace was forced to fight for every position possible in the ultra-competitive Fujitsu series midfield.

Slade was just .48s from the fastest time in qualifying but the close nature of the Fujitsu field on a short circuit like Wakefield meant that the Dexion BA Falcon would start the first race from 12th position.

Tim's time was less than one-tenth from a top five qualifying performance.

Trouble-free performances amidst the midfield awaited Tim for race day, racing to 12th position in race one and 14th in the second to ensure that his 2007 points score continued to tick over.

The third race was looking significantly better after changes made to the car between races.

Slade climbed as high as 10th in the attrition-filled 30-lap event and was looking good to solidify his position until an altercation with Marcus Zukanovic ended his weekend.

Slade's Dexion Falcon collected the other car, bouncing the rear of the car off the ground and damaging components in the rear suspension beyond quick repair.

Despite the race three disappointments the Wakefield Park weekend showed plenty of Slade's fighting race craft as he featured in many dices throughout the field -- only serving to continually aid his V8 Supercar learning experience.

"The car was progressing in the right direction in race three," he said.

"We had made some changes and it was feeling a bit better than it did in races one and two.

"Unfortunately I locked the front brakes when I was running behind Marcus and from there the rear of our cars came into contact, which is what caused the damage to mine and ended the weekend."

After a strong top-ten performance at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in March, Slade believed that the Dexion team is still on the money as the Fujitsu series continues to gain strength.

"We have been pretty close all weekend," he said.

"At our best we were only three or four tenths from the pace but that's not the kind of speed I could maintain for an entire race.

"We got some points and I got some more experience which is all invaluable to us at this stage."

Tim Slade and the Dexion Racing Falcon will next be in action at Winton Motor Raceway in regional Victoria, on May 18 -- 20.
