MARK MCNALLY: MALLALA PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING

Mark McNally had his best qualifying session to date in Round 5 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series and will start tomorrow's Race 1 from 15th on the grid.

PRACTICE 1: Early in the session Mark's car developed an oil leak which put him out for the reminder of the session, unable to gain valuable laps. The culprit was a loose connection in the oil system, and although leaking a lot of oil Mark's quick thinking to shut the engine off saved and damage occurring. A repair was affected, the car cleaned up and it was ready for the second practice session.

PRACTICE 2: Mark was happy to get a full session this time around. The laps were valuable for Mark, enabling him to make some vital set-up changes and get a good feel for the V8 Supercar around this tight circuit. Mark posted a 1:11.6257 on lap 18 of 21 completed and ended up 21st in the session without using any of his new tyres, preferring to save them for qualifying.

QUALIFYING: Mark's qualifying time of 1:10.3562 was enough to put him on grid 15 for Race 1 tomorrow, but more importantly his lap time were extremely consistent throughout the session. His fastest lap was on 14 of 15 he completed with consistent times in the laps leading up to it.

MARK'S COMMENTS: "This was my best qualifying yet so obviously I am pretty happy with the results.

"My consistency is what I am more excited about because that is what will make the difference during the racing tomorrow."

"Keeping the new tyres for the qualifying session paid off today as it gave me two opportunities to bet the benefit they provide."

"It is going to be tough in tomorrow's racing, starting mid-pack will be interesting on this bumpy, tight circuit."

Tomorrow's events include Race 1 at 10am, reverse-grid Race 2 at 12.40pm, and Race 3 at 3.30pm.
