OPTIMA SPORT LOOKING TO EXPAND INTO 2007

In its debut season Gold Coast-based Optima Sport has certainly shown unexpected speed for a team that didn't feature any V8 Supercar history when it was formed in February this year.

Optima Sport is now looking to take the next step in its progression by expanding into a two-car operation in 2007 and offer race preparation services for the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

The team has recently been approached by drivers seeking to secure a drive in the 2007 series, which begins at the Clipsal 500 in March.

"A few drivers have seen the strides we have made in our rookie season, and rather than go through the same learning curve and investment themselves have sought out the option to either jump on board in one of our cars, or add their own set of wheels to our Surfers Paradise facility," said team owner Dave Macdougall.

"There is no doubt about the competitiveness of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series. This is the top end of town and without the right gear you can't expect to be a regular challenger

"Our package is a quality one. It currently includes a 2005 debut BA Falcon with 05 and 06 engines, 06 Sachs dampers, Triple 8 prepared running gear, updated suspension components and a quality spares package.

"I have no doubt that our team manager Ken Clark is the right person to drive our workshop and race operations. He's been a part of several championships in Karting and Formula Ford, his thought process is always raising our performance level.

"Ken's ability to work closely and respectfully with specialist services has ensured the Optima Sport BA Falcon will run in the lead group."

Clark has been pleased with the team's progress throughout their debut year and is looking forward to the expanding Optima Sport in 2007.

"We've featured in the top 10 in every event this year, won a race in Sydney, qualified third and led at Queensland and were running fourth in the final at Mallala before a freak rear tyre failure caught us out," said Clark.

"It's also fair to say we let ourselves down a few times with rookie team mistakes, which we've learnt from. Our technical partners have really helped guide us to the pointy end of the grid with advice on how to build a winning package, and now that we've got each circuit under our belt, we're ready to challenge for race wins in 2007."
