Canadian Touring Car Championship ready for 10th season

With the recent announcement of renewed support from MINI Canada combined with the existing programs from Mazda Canada and Honda Performance Development, there will be $419,000 available in prize money to CTCC competitors this season. In addition to this astonishing support, $16,400 will be available in contingency awards.

“This is the largest cash payout in all of Canadian sports car racing,” stated John Bondar, President of CTCC. “We have been honoured by the commitments shown by these fine corporations over the years and the drivers are grateful for their ongoing support.”

Two CTCC teams are also manufacturer programs. Velocity Motorsports Club’s Honda Civic Si, car No. 41, is a skill development program from Honda Canada Manufacturing whereby associates volunteer their time to improve their technical skills. As for Hyundai Canada, it is directly involved with Blanchet Motorsports/Hyundai Genesis Racing, cars No. 84 and No. 88, with the goal of marketing the Hyundai Genesis Coupe throughout the season.

2016 season begins next weekend

CTCC starts its 2016 campaign next weekend, May 20-22, at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) near Bowmanville, Ontario where it first raced back in 2007. On that day, a tradition was set and the series has always had its season opener on the captivating 4 km long road course.

As of Monday, 38 cars are registered to compete throughout the season, nicely and almost evenly divided amongst our three classes; Touring, Super Touring and Grand Touring.

“In addition to a solid roster of drivers from Quebec and Ontario, we attract drivers from Newfoundland and British Columbia which enforces our Canadian roots,” concludes Bondar.
