Walkden finishes 9th in 2010 Australasian Safari

Tasmanian Les Walkden and co-driver Linda Long have finished the 2010 Australasian Safari in a brilliant 9th place, making up three places on the final day of the week long event.

The pair completed the final four stages of the marathon event in Western Australia's outback with a fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth fastest stage time in their Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution.

The seventh day of the event was the shortest and was held close to Esperence in the south of the state.

This was Walkden and Long's first experience of the Australasian Safari, considered to be Australia's toughest motorsport challenge.

After clutch failure on the very first stage of the event, Walkden and Long made a brilliant come from behind charge, and could well have been in line for a top five placing had it not been for their earlier troubles.

The event was won by V8 Supercar star, Craig Lowndes, driving a factory-supported Holden Colorado.
