Stuttgart. After his debut in 2007, the former European rally champion Armin Schwarz (44) will again contest the Transsyberia Rally for Porsche in 2008. Schwarz will be navigated by double Dakar winner Andy Schulz (53). Manning the second Porsche AG vehicle is Carles Celma. The 37-year-old also contested the long distance rally from Moscow to the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar last year. His co-driver is Germany's Wolf-Hendrik Unger (59), who contested marathon rallies for Porsche in the eighties.
"The Transsyberia Rally was completely new territory for me last year. I gained a huge amount of experience during the 14 day event through Russia and Mongolia. At such a rally, the co-driver plays a major role. So with Andy Schulz I'm thrilled to have one of the most experienced and successful marathon navigators alongside me," claims Armin Schwarz optimistically. "I've navigated many international pilots over the years but by now I haven't had the pleasure of co-driving Armin. So I'm very much looking forward to working with him. I hope I can contribute a lot to success," says Andy Schulz.
Carles Celma also draws on the experience of his co-driver: "Wolf-Hendrik Unger has co-driven a Porsche 959 through the desert with Jacky Ickx. Moreover, he is a good engineer and speaks six languages. So when he tells me where to go then he knows what he's talking about."
