DRIVERS NOT THE ONLY WINNERS AT CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY
Over $900,000 Raised for Community Programs During Labor Day Race Weekend
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. -- Drivers Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Burton took home the checkered flags in their respective races during the recently concluded Labor Day weekend races at California Speedway, but the community was also a winner courtesy of several community events and programs that the Speedway participated in during the week.
"We had some wonderful racing on the track and at the same time we also did some wonderful things in the community this weekend," said Zucker. "I cannot state how grateful we are to our loyal fans who are so instrumental in helping us raise funds for so many great causes."
Previous race weekends at California Speedway have been a tremendous catalyst for charitable giving and the recently concluded Labor Day race weekend at the Speedway was no exception. California Speedway helped to raise an estimated $900,000 with proceeds going to the NASCAR Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and over 70 other local non-profit groups.
On Wednesday night, California Speedway hosted a fund-raising event, the inaugural "Running Wide Open" at the Avalon in Hollywood. That event - hosted by driver Jeff Gordon and featuring a performance by international pop star Rihanna -- benefited the NASCAR Foundation. Other charitable events or programs that California Speedway participated in over the past week that benefited the community include, the California Speedway Guest Services program, an ongoing auction featuring VIP experience packages on nascar.com, a ticket package that benefited the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, a playground built in North Fontana, CA in conjunction with KaBOOM! and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Fill the Boot collection program which took place at the track. Additionally, local non-profit groups participated in a funding program with Americrown, the track's catering, concessions and merchandise service provider.
