DUNCAN TAPPY'S SQUAD TAKES VICTORY AT CHARITY STAR STUDDED EXTRAVAGANZA

Duncan Tappy (25, West Ewell, UK) and his 'Loose Cannons' team took the Celebrity Karting Challenge victory for the third time in four years at the Autosport International Show, NEC, on Friday. The event is organised by racing legend David Brabham and was primarily in aid of Malaria No More UK.

It was held in the Live Action Arena for the first time in front of a crowd of over 1000 spectators. An astounding 27 teams competed with four professionals and two members of the public per team. With over 100 racing drivers competing in the 90 minute race the competition was fiercer than ever. The entry list read like a 'Who's Who' of motorsport and, in addition to David Brabham himself, included Allan McNish, Alex Wurz, Anthony Davidson and Franck Montagny. The 400 metre circuit was specially designed for the event and included ten challenging corners and unsurprisingly the race was close with the winner being decided on the last corner.

Duncan organized his team for the second year and raced with former team-mate Riki Christodoulou, Will Stevens, Paul Rees and public members Dave Fry and Shaun Traynor. As reigning champions, the pressure was on. The rules meant that the public members set qualifying positions and the Loose Cannons started midfield in a respectable 13th. Duncan started the race and at the end of the first lap he'd made his way through the pack to sixth. At the end of his 15 minutes behind the wheel he was leading the race and handed over to Riki. After Dave and Shauns' stints the team was lying in fifth. Will made up to second and Paul took over for the final session clinching victory at the last corner after a hard battle with Adam Christodoulou from the Harley Slack Racing 1 Team.

Duncan Tappy - "I really enjoyed the race again this year. It's a great event with so many drivers getting together pre- season and a good way to start the year with a bit of fun and a lot of competitive spirit on one track. Having a whopping 27 teams made for a brilliant, if slightly chaotic, race. It's in aid of a good cause and all the more enjoyable for winning it again."
