SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2010) -- Auto Club Speedway led the charge to celebrate "National Book Month" in October by encouraging area students to read by participating in Lefty's Fall Reading Challenge. That challenge led to two local elementary schools, Ted J. Porter Elementary School in Fontana and St. Peter & Paul School in Alta Loma, to receive $5,000 each for their libraries and a California Pizza Kitchen pizza party for the entire school. More than 70 schools and 18,000 students participated in the Reading Challenge.

The $5,000 awards and pizza parties were based on 1) the school with the most students completing their reading challenges and 2) the school with the highest percentage of students completing the challenge. A check for the libraries and a coupon for the pizza parties were presented to officials of each school by Speedway President Gillian Zucker and California Pizza Kitchen during pre-race ceremonies at NASCAR's CampingWorld.com 300 race at Auto Club Speedway over the weekend.

Ted J. Porter Elementary School received its award for having the most students completing their reading challenges with 728 completed challenges. St. Peter & Paul School received its award for having the highest percentage of students completing their reading challenges with 100% participation.

In addition, upon completion of the reading assignments students received:

* A certificate of completion

* One (1) complimentary ticket for a parent or guardian to the CampingWorld.com 300

* One (1) complimentary membership to Lefty's Kids Club that got kids 12 and under free to NASCAR Qualifying Day and the CampingWorld.com 300

* A complimentary CPKids meal at participating California Pizza Kitchens
