A DAY OF EXCITEMENT AND SURPRISES AT THE 5TH ANNUAL RACING TO RECOVERY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Foundation Supporters Help Raise Over $164,000 to Benefit Paralysis Patients, Scientific Research

LAS VEGAS (November 17, 2010) - The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation's 5th Annual Racing to Recovery Golf Tournament was held on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the spectacular The Golf Club at SouthShore on Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, NV, where one lucky golfer shot a hole-in-one to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Over 100 golfers from throughout the Las Vegas area, across the United States, Canada, Great Britain and New Zealand participated in the annual tournament. Celebrity guests included baseball Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers and Nashville recording artist Michelle Murray. Members of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas PGA Golf Management School were on hand to pinch-hit on the tough drives, while beautiful models from Patron Spirits offered refreshments on the course. Two hole-in-one prizes were offered; a beautiful Lexus automobile donated by Lexus of Henderson and a Red Hot Sunglow Harley Davidson "Street Bob" motorcycle donated by Don Andress of Las Vegas Harley Davidson.

Witnesses reported that as Dr. Lynn Dayton of Orem, UT approached The Golf Club at SouthShore's scenic 10th tee, he sat on the motorcycle and said, "I'm going to win this thing!" And then, to everyone's amazement, he did! Becoming the lucky owner of a brand new Harley Davidson! Dr. Dayton's hole-in-one was a first in the 5-year history of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation's Racing to Recovery tournament.

Sam Schmidt, the Foundation's Chairman commented: "This year's tournament just raised the bar ... thanks to Don Andress' generous donation of the Harley Davidson. That hole in one was hard to top! The Foundation is very fortunate to have such wonderful friends who help support this event each year. The Golf Club at SouthShore did a great job, the weather was perfect, and we appreciate the generosity of our sponsors, golfers, and donors. "

The night before the tournament, sponsors, golfers and supporters enjoyed a festive Pre-Party and Auction at the home of Sam and Sheila Schmidt. A champagne cruise on Lake Las Vegas got the party started and a display of exotic cars filled the driveway. Michelle Murray performed throughout the evening, finishing with a song written especially for Sam Schmidt in recognition of the challenges faced by those with spinal cord injury. Silent and live auction items included valuable vacation and golf packages, sports memorabilia, autographed guitars, exquisite art and wine, and dinner catered by famed local chef Emery Childress of Emery's La Barrista Restaurant.

The tournament and pre-party raised over $164,000 to help fund research and quality of life programs for those with spinal cord injuries and paralysis.

Foundation President/CEO Ida Cahill stated, "Spinal cord injury is a global pandemic. Of the almost 1.3 million people in the US living with spinal cord injuries, approximately 42,000 are American war veterans. The spinal cord injury and research communities are looking to the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation to deliver on its promise to cure paralysis and we will not let them down. Together and with everyone's continued support, we can make the dream become a reality" .

About The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation

The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation (SSPF) was started in 2000 by Indy Racing League driver Sam Schmidt shortly after a practice-run crash left him paralyzed from the chest down. Now SSPF is leading the charge to find a cure for paralysis caused by injuries, stroke and diseases. In addition to initiating local and national advocacy efforts on behalf of those disabled, SSPF funds various quality of life grants to organizations throughout the world, provides college scholarships for people with spinal cord injuries/paralysis, and funds a national Day at the Races program.
