Better and better!
Kevin Lacombe wins Superbike, 2nd in Pro 600
Pascal Picotte 3rd in Superbike, 9th in Pro 600
Shubenacadie, August 13, 2006. The 2006 Parts Canada Superbike Championship has seen incredibly close racing all season, and today was no exception, with both Team Toyota Yamaha Racing riders winning and gaining podium finishes after incredibly tough battles. Kevin Lacombe finished second in Pro 600 one wheel behind the leader, and won in Superbike with a 4 second lead, after dominating that race from green to checkered. Pascal Picotte finished off the leader's pace in Pro 600, but fought his way to 3rd place in Superbike, fractions of a second behind second.
Kevin Lacombe has enjoyed an exceptional season so far in 2006, with 11 podiums out of 12 races run so far this year. "Finishing second may be gratifying, but I settled for the points in the end, rather than force the issue and risk falling and taking the leader down with me." The Superbike race was magic for Kevin and for his team. "I managed a great start and was leading after the first lap. I then managed to build up a good 6 sec lead, which allowed me to ease up a little at the end when my tires were used up. I really like this track, especially since my guys gave me a bike that I could win with."
Pascal Picotte went through an up and down day, a small error preventing him from keeping up with the lead pack in Pro 600. The Superbike race was another matter entirely. "I got a good start from the second row and finished the first lap in 6th place. I then put my head down and forced my way through to 3rd by lap 7. Getting up to Kevin was much more difficult, and I was unable to give the team and our partners the 1 - 2 finish that I have dreamed of all year. We now have one more event this year to accomplish that goal-- in both classes."
The last round of the 2006 Parts Canada Superbike Championship will be held at Shannonville over the September 1 to 3 weekend. Go to www.cdnsuperbike.com for more information and live timing and scoring
