The first part led through mine sites, the second through the sand dunes of Copiapo. Joan Barreda opened the piste, found a good rhythm and kept his lead for a while. At the end he reached the finish line placed fifth on the day.

Joan Barreda: "I tried to find a few minutes in the race today and made it successfully happen in the first half. Unfortunately I hit a stone in the second part in the fesh-fesh field. The crash broke my navigation device. Together with Cyril Despres I managed to finish the stage, losing just a little bit of time. I am looking forward to the final two days and certainly aim at bringing my position home."
