"It is a big disappointment that they cancelled this event. Normally a race is postponed. Around 9/11 there was a race scheduled and even then, they just ran it on the weekend.

The sponsors, manufacturers and teams have all put alot effort into the Dakar rally and its very difficult for them as well as the fans.

While cancelling is obviously the right thing to do for safety and security reasons, there's no reason why we couldn't have raced a few stages in Morocco or Portugal where there wasn't the same risk.

I would love to come back next year. I count this as a missed opportunity. We had team prepared, great sponsors and you only have so many years when your experience, age and competitive ability are all aligned and this was one of those years."
