MISSLIN BRINGS BACK THE BEST TIME OF THE JMB STRADALE OFF ROAD TEAM ON THE 9TH STAGE

For the last day in the Atacama desert, the 9th stage was shortened due to foggy weather conditions. The competitors raced only 170.25 km on time clocked stage in the Copiapo region dunes before leaving to go to Serena. The five Lancers of the JMB Stradale Off Road team came in 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 18th on this stage.

The best time of the day was obtained by the President of the JMB Stradale Off Road Team. Nicolas Misslin and Jean-Michel Polato came in 7th of the day and have gained 1 position in the general ranking, moving to 13th place. Satisfied with his day, the young business man who bought over the ex Mitsubishi Motor Sports factory team explains: "Today I wanted to go fast in order to not be in the dust of my adversaries tomorrow. This was the hardest of the time clocked stages, in terms of dunes, up until now...and if I can start noticing the difference, this means I'm gaining experience! All five cars are once again back at the bivouac and I'm really proud of these results!"

The consistent Carlos Sousa and his co-driver, Matthieu Baumel arrive next in 9th place. The Portuguese-French crew move up to 6th position in the general ranking at 3h 44mn 27 s from the provisional leader; Carlos Sainz. "We should have crossed a big erg but we were able to go around it by the left. I don't thing we gained in time but we didn't lose any either.

Orlando Terranova and Pascal Maimon come in with the 10th time of the stage and maintain their 11th place in the general ranking only two minutes behind their predecessor, the American, Robby Gordon. "On my side, everything went well" comments Pascal. "Orly was uncomfortable for driving as he forgot his side seat cushions. Except for this and the fact that that we got stuck in the sand and lost cap once, all went well! We were only delayed a couple of minutes therefore nothing important."

The young Portuguese driver, Miguel Barbosa, and his co-driver, Miguel Ramalho, place 11th of the day and move up to 12th position in the general ranking. "It was again a difficult day in the dunes", announces Miguel Barbosa. "When climbing up one of the dunes, three motor cycle drivers were stuck in the sand. We tried to go around them and by doing this, we got stuck in the sand. We lost time today by looking for a waypoint and changing a tire. "

As for Guilherme Spinelli and his co-driver, Filipe Palmeiro, despite their misadventures of the day, they came in 18th. The Brazilian-Portuguese tandem maintains their 8th place in the general ranking. "We were at the top of a dune when we saw a motor cyclist stuck in the sand just underneath us...In order to avoid him, I decided to go into rear gear and we started to get stuck in the sand also. I insisted quite a bit on the gear and was obliged to change the clutch which made us lose one hour."

Tomorrow's 10th stage is a distance of 586 km out of which 238 km will be timed. The Chilean valleys will be tomorrow's playing ground and concentration will be the name of the game!
