The AMV pilot had to make this difficult decision to not be fully recovered from his left shoulder injury
Marc Coma will not participate in the next edition of the Dakar Rally. The three-time winner of the event (2006, 2009 and 2011) was looking to compete in his eleventh consecutive Dakar but has failed to recover in time from the injury he suffered in his left shoulder in Rally Morocco.
Marc Coma announced today at a press conference organized at Hotel Alexandra Barcelona, that he will not contest the Dakar Rally 2013. The rider has had to make the difficult decision to not be fully recovered from his left shoulder injury, suffered last October 17 in the Rally of Morocco.

The recovery work to his left shoulder in the care of Sant Cugat has been intense but the AMV rider has not achieved the minimum results.
Coma's 2012 season was still a successful one, in which, for the fifth time, was proclaimed World Rally Champion Cross-Country (2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012).
Coma started strong, winning the first two rounds of the championship-Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and Sealine Cross-Country-, and only needed a third place in Sardinia to be crowned five-time World Cross-Country Rally.
Team mate Joan Pedrero will be part of the adventure of Dakar with AMV Red Bull KTM Factory Team.
The Spanish rider faces his fifth appearance in the Dakar with the utmost enthusiasm and experience with previous appearances, in addition to the miles accumulated this season.
Marc Coma, AMV rider: "After thinking and thinking a lot, I find myself physically unable to face the Dakar. I want to thank all the people who are part of this project, which have understood the situation and helped us get to this point.
The situation is not easy for me, and I waited until the last minute before making this decision. It has been two months of very hard work, very tired, fighting against the clock, not just me but all the people involved, which I want to thank all you have done to try to get to the appointment with the minimum conditions but, regrettably, cannot be so.
Do not forget that the Dakar is the toughest race in the world. With Dr. Mir, Dexeus University Institute, and Dr. Turmo, the CAR of Sant Cugat, we performed various stress tests to determine the current status of my left shoulder without us from obtaining the desired results.
But I want to make clear that this is a parenthesis. I've fallen, and it's not the first time nor the last. Whenever that has happend, I've gotten up and we've always continued, we have become stronger. "
