BIKE:

Jordi Viladoms (Esp -- KTM) - 9

"This stage was really impressive. I started from the back, at my own pace. When I reached the last pit stop, I saw that Marc (Coma) was no longer there. I didn't know if something happened. I thought he could have had a problem. And in the last 10 km, it became completely crazy. I was riding with Coma, Despres and Duclos. When I reached the end and when I saw that I could follow Marc and Cyril, all my concerns disappeared. It feels really good and I'm satisfied."

Marc Coma (Esp - KTM) - 002

"A very tough stage... very complicated. I drove quietly in the first kilometers because I knew that the stage was very long and that I might have problems with my tyres. Then, it got really complicated with navigation. I misinterpreted a note and lost a lot of time. Then I found the right pace in the part I found the most difficult part to ride in my entire life. I am glad I did. It was important to spend a day like this not loosing one's head. It is the kind of stage that leaves its toll on the rally like the Tourmalet stage does in the Tour de France, in cycling."

Alain Duclos (Fra - 14 - KTM) - 014

It was a fantastic finish. At the last pit stop, I arrived third so we were a bit concenrned for Cyril and Marc, as we were both carrying their water. They arrived a few minutes later so we let them go first and we followed along; Lopez was also in the group with us. For about 60 km, we rode all together at full speed; it was pretty impressive and very, very fast. Towards the end, each of us was with his top rider: I was with Cyril; we had to fight hard to find the last CP but it was awesome. Frankly, this stage was superb. Over the last two days, we have had wonderful moments making history. Coming down from the dunes, my ears were blocked because it was going downhill so fast.

CAR:

Giniel De Villiers (Afs - Volkswagen) - 305

"20km from the end of the stage, I crossed a sand dune and I really had bad luck waiting for me on the other side. We were in the wrong place and ditched right into a hole. I lost 20 minutes trying to get out. The front of the car is a bit bruised but the car is so sturdy... it's incredible. I hurt my back more than I hurt the car. There was nothing I could to to avoid it. It was just bad luck. Of course, I am a bit disappointed because we have lost even more time. We just have a lot of bad luck. This is really not our Dakar!"

Robby Gordon (USA - Hummer) - 309

"We had a good day. We managed to have a problem-free stage that will have no consequence. We caught up with Miller around CP2. I remained pretty careful on the bumps on the way back. We are just loosing about 20 seconds, so it's meaningless. As soon as we are on faster trails, they (the Volkswagen) shake us off. They have so much more power than we do!"

Mark Miller (USA - Volkswagen) - 308

"We had a tough time with navigation all morning. And when you struggle with navigating, it is hard to keep a good pace. After that, we had a flat and Giniel (De Villiers) caught up with us; then we stayed with him. Then he got stuck in a hole; we wanted to help him but we were at the bottom of the dune and it was impossible for us to drive back mid-dune. I felt bad for him. I actually expected us to do better in today's stage."
