BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (July 27, 2002) Steve Barton and Donnie Burns of Bonne Terre both had nights to remember Saturday night at Big River Sand Drags as both not only took first place in two different classes they also garnered top eliminator honors. For Barton his double night of victories came in the Open 4x4 and Vehicle ET classes.

"Hey, I like this ET class," Barton said. "It's fun tracking down some of these people from behind."

In the Vehicle ET class, Barton was the first place and top eliminator winner while Philip Beaird captured second.

"Philip is tough to beat in that class," Barton said. "And hey, Gladys (Edwards) probably had me beat, I think she was afraid she was going to break out so she slowed a bit at the end. That's where I caught her." In the Open 4x4 class, Barton was the top eliminator and first place winner while his buddy David Mallow of Bonne Terre finished in second place.

For Burns his efforts took place in the Pro ATV and Super Pro ATV classes.

In Pro ATV, Burns had to defeat Doug Brown of Farmington in the top eliminator match while in the Super Pro ATV class his final victory of the night came over John Conner.

In the ATV-1 class, Josh Hayes was the winner while second place finisher Jim Glatczak was the top eliminator. In Junior ATV, Conner Matson was the winner with Eric McCoy taking home second place.

In Off Road Modified, Scott Nations (driving for an ill Todd Dee) was the top eliminator and first place winner while Corey Dee of Bismarck finished in second place.

In Stock Buggy, Josh Harris of Belgrade continued his outstanding season by taking both top eliminator and first place. Rick Keller finished in second.

Racing action resumes this Saturday at Big River. Gates open at 3 p.m. with time trials starting at 4 and racing at 7. For more information phone (573) 358-5009.
