PADUCAH, Ky. (September 27, 2001) - Still reveling in the success of their recent trip to the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) U.S. Nationals, the "Super Bowl" of drag racing, Billy Harper Motorsports (BHM) will set their sights on tackling the 1/4-mile dragstrip of Maryland International Raceway located in Budd's Creek, Md. This weekend, the BHM team will compete in the International Hot Rod Association's (IHRA) 10th Annual CARQUEST President's Cup Nationals.

Racing action is slated to kick off this Friday with the first round of Pro Modified qualifying to begin at 2:00 p.m. EST with a second round scheduled for the evening. On Saturday, two more qualifying rounds will be held for the Pro Modified class, providing the BHM team four chances to post their best pass. Finals are set for Sunday, and Harper wants his Dodge Viper to be one of the vehicles at the line.

"We are looking forward to Budd's Creek," stated owner and driver Billy Harper. "My sister lives in the area, and it will be nice to have family come to support the team. "

The Billy Harper Motorsports team is also pumped with the recent announcement by NHRA of their 2002 event schedule. After a successful first year in 2001, competing as an exhibition class in five events, the NHRA has decided to increase the Pro Modified division's presence to eight exhibition eliminator events. Events scheduled include the 33rd Annual Mac Tools NHRA Gatornationals (Gainesville, Fla.), the Second Annual Mac Tools NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals (Bristol, Tenn.) and the 22nd Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals (Commerce, Ga.), the 33rd Annual Matco Tools Supernationals (Englishtown, N.J.), the 38th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals (Columbus, Ohio), the Sixth Annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals (St. Louis) the 48th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals (Indianapolis) and the 15th Annual NHRA Nationals (Memphis, Tenn.).

The top drivers in drag racing compete in the National Hot Rod Association, and Billy Harper hopes to pen in many of the eight 2002 events into his busy schedule. "We had a great run at the NHRA U.S. Nationals earlier this month and based on that, I think we can be competitive in the series," stated Harper. "With eight opportunities to make it into the finals, we hope to capture a few NHRA victories in 2002." But for now, Harper will focus on this weekend's IHRA event.
