Long "Spring Break" is Finally Over; Chris Holbrook Poised to Continue Winning Ways

Cordova, Ill. (June 15, 1999) -- The chase for the Pro Stock Championship in the IHRA Snap on Tools Drag Racing Series resumes this weekend at Cordova Raceway Park in Cordova, Ill.

The five-week break has been bittersweet for Chris Holbrook, driver of the Stu Evans/Ford Credit Racing Ford Probe. Although the thrill of winning his first national event is still fresh in his memory, it's been difficult waiting for the upcoming Amalie Oil Summer Nationals.

"Winning at Darlington was certainly a real kick for me and the team," said Holbrook. "I'll never forget the feeling. But, waiting around for the past two months has just been terrible.

"Although we did participate at the Foxhunt at Norwalk Raceway Park [which Holbrook won], I'm anxious to get behind the wheel again at a national event. We've obviously found the right combination for winning and I can't wait to get back to racing for the championship."

As the current national ET (6.61) record holder, Holbrook is also excited about the new surface at Cordova.

"If the weather is good this weekend, the new surface should help produce some very quick times. We've been working on the chassis and clutch set up since Darlington and Butch [crew chief Peterson] has found a few new tricks he's going to try out."

"Chris is right in the thick of things in the points chase [ he's third] and the team is working hard to ensure that we move up this weekend," said Peterson. "Chris' driving is right on the money. He's cutting great lights and the car is capable of running in the 6.60's all weekend."

The Amalie Oil Summer Nationals also marks the debut of a new livery for the Stu Evans/Ford Credit Racing Ford Probe.

The old paint scheme of orange and yellow with the cobra snake is gone. In its place is a stunningly beautiful solid blue livery, cobalt blue to be exact, courtesy of new sponsor BASF.

Qualifying action at the IHRA Summer Nationals at the newly paved Cordova Raceway Park in Cordova, Ill. begins on Friday June 18 with final eliminations on Sunday.
