Goodyear's D2096 Aboard As Millican Sets IHRA ET Record
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (April 25, 2004) -- Records continue to fall to the Goodyear D2096 rear drive tire for Top Fuel and Funny Car drag racers.
Clay Millican recorded the quickest Top Fuel run in International Hot Rod Association history when he was clocked at 4.550 seconds during the IHRA meet at Rockingham Dragway. Millican did not back the run up with a pass quick enough to establish the record under IHRA rules, but it remains the quickest time in the history of the sanctioning body.
Millican, a Goodyear loyalist, said, "This is a big day for us because we were running the new Goodyear tire and we were able to learn a lot."
Millican went on to win the Top Fuel final, the 32nd of his career. That victory tied him with Rickie Smith for the most in IHRA history.
Doug Kalitta used a set of D2096s to record the fastest pass in National Hot Rod Association history at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier in the month. Kalitta's speed was 335.57 mph.
