GRAND BEND, ONT. - Mick Snyder wished qualifying were what determined a win or a loss. The rookie Pro Outlaw driver from DeMotte, Ind., skipped his high school graduation to go racing at the IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ont. Snyder did have some comfort in scoring the top qualifying spot.
The Inaugural Canadian event gave Snyder the opportunity to close in on the points lead. Snyder's 6.115/222.05 was set as the top elapsed time and speed of the event. Snyder's number one spot paired him opposite Jeff Chatterson in round one of eliminations.
Snyder scored the holeshot on Chatterson, posting a .0568 to Chatterson's slower .0618, but Chatterson was able to drive around the young Snyder at the top end. The loss for Snyder was indeed an upset, but the family team tends to return with a vengeance at the next IHRA national event.
Snyder will return to action at the IHRA returns to Cordova, IL, in two weeks for the Amalie Oils Summer Nationals.
