Top Fuel Harley Racer John Mancuso Ends Awards Banquet Tour By Gaining ADBA Crown. Marchman Wins Wrenching Award For 1998!

BOWLING GREEN, KY-- John Mancuso left very little warmth in his seat at the American Drag Bike Association awards banquet held this past weekend. It seemed as if every time he sat down, his name was called to the podium to accept another award, either for himself or for his team. There were several hundred people in attendance such as reps from the Buell Motorcycle Company (Harley-Davidson's sport bike company), Competition Cams and the Bowling Green Bereau of Tourism as well as scores of Harley racers that witnessed the Houston, Tx., based, Top Fuel Harley racer's team score three awards. He was also awarded his second major sanctioning body world championship from the 1998 season.

In his acceptance speech, Mancuso shared his victory with his wife Felicia, co-crewchiefs David Fitzhugh and Jon Marchman. He also named off a lengthy line of sponsors that helped him to attain his two-championship season. He also welcomed Allied-Signal, Gates Rubber Company, Monaco Coach Corporation, Red Line Oil and Vanson Leathers to his team as sponsors.

Mancuso was awarded the "Professional Racer of The Year" honors for the second consecutive year. The Mancuso Race Team won the Best Appearing Top Fuel Race Team accolades as a testimony to their continual exhibition of professionalism.

Co-crewchief Jon Marchman was honored for his tireless efforts on the Mancuso team. ADBA officials awarded him the "Professional Crew Chief Of The Year" title for the 1998. This award served as a boost for the crew as well.

Mancuso plans to run a 19-race schedule for 1999 and likewise plans to defend championships earned under both the IHRA/Screamin' Eagle Banner and ADBA sanction. He will begin his 1999 IHRA/Screamin' Eagle title defense at the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington, S.C., March 12-14 and will be part of the Media Day festivities on Thursday, March 11. Each contestant will be afforded three qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest eight bikes will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of the IHRA's Drag Review magazine.
