Duggins takes Kinston WCS Top Dragster victory

KINSTON, N.C. -- Spartanburg, S.C.'s Scott Duggins earned the Top Dragster win at the Kinston Dragway World Championship Series race Sunday, Aug. 30, a sportsman-only points event on the IHRA Snap-on Tools Championship Drag Racing Series. Duggins, a three-time world champion in Quick Rod, drove his dragster to a 5.377 second, 94.31 mile per hour run to defeat Roy Holcomb, of Harrison Township, Mich. In Top Sportsman, Joe Ballog of Wyandotte, Mich. claimed the victory. Ballog covered Kinston's 1/8-mile facility in 4.866, 148.10 in his Chevy Beretta, while runnerup Rick Moon of Rock Hill, S.C. went 5.298, 103.63 in his Trans-AM. Lynwood Daughterty of Rocky Mount, Va., was the Modified winner, while Steve Furr of Harrisburg outran points leader Kevin Scales in Quick Rod. Other winners included Bobby Jernigan, Harrells (Super Rod); Billy Sasser, LaGrange (Hot Rod); T.C. Morris, Boston, Ky. (Super Stock); and Mike Morris, New Haven, Ky. (Stock). The final WCS event will be Sept. 20-21 at Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, Miss.
