NORWALK, OH-- Somehow or another, the sting of a first round loss is often forgotten when one sets a world record during the same weekend. Thus was the case with veteran Pro Modified driver Dale Brfinsfield, who pilots the Dylan Mortgage-sponsored, 1968 Camaro. He fell in the first round to Tim McAmis, but backed up a 223.39 blast on Friday with a 222.39 on the next day to become the category's speed record holder.
Brinsfield admitted that he missed the clutch in the match against McAmis, but the record serves as a great motivating factor in a season that started out rough.
"We needed this good fortune," admitted Brinsfield. "This couldn't have come at a more opportune time because losing is tough, but leaving with a record heals that hurt."
Brinsfield slowed off of his pace in the first round as he could only muster a 6.535/217.21 and that was no match against McAmis, who carded a 6.438/216.97.
The Dylan Mortgage-sponsored team plans to continue his championship conquest at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH., during the weekend of September 10-12. Brinsfield, along with each Pro Modified contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review.
Dylan Mortgage is based in Wilmington, N.C., and employs a staff of 300. They host offices in such states as both the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. According to Caviness, a vast expansion this year will bring new venues such as Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma and Virginia. Dylan is no stranger to championships, as it currently sponsors the two-time national champion in organized softball.
