NORWALK, OH-- Quain Stott never looks forward to the completion of a drag racing season, but he sure would not miss any sleep if the misfortunes would go away. The frustration continues to mount as the Bug Eater-sponsored driver fell in the first round of competition, the victim of a holeshot. Stott had qualified sixth in the program.
Stott had dipped low into the 6.5 second range with a 6.515/216.55 qualifying effort. He was seeded opposite Landon Jordan in the program. Jordan, the former Pro Street racer, outreacted Stott and was able to fend him off for the victory by a 6.53/211.06 to 6.50/217.07.
At the first race of the season in Bradenton, Florida, Mitchell Stott left embarrassed of the fiasco that had ensued during the course of the weekend. It seemed like the harder that the Radiac Abrasives sponsored driver tried, the worse things got. Those are distant memories.
The Mill Spring, North Carolina based driver thrust his nitrous-injected, Chevrolet Lumina into one of the quickest fields in history at the World Nationals by jumping to the 8th spot, his quickest qualifying effort to date. He carded a 6.528/215.98 to earn his berth.
He met Tommy Gray in the first round and dropped a tough decision. Gray had the quicker reaction time advantage and that proved to be Stott's undoing. The match produced a 6.55/214 to 6.54/216 decision.
"We are happy with this showing," explained Stott. "Naturally, we never want to lose first round. But, it sure is a whole lot better than not being able to race on Sunday."
