CLARK IS IN SEARCH OF RECORD COLUMBUS, Ohio - Gary Clark, the 1997 AMA/Prostar Funnybike National Champion, earned his way into the winners circle at the season opener, held in Atlanta, just three weeks ago. Even after taking top honors, Clark feels cheated.

On his first run, Clark had run 6.64-seconds, elapsed time, in the quarter mile. That run was the quickest time ever in the Funnybike class, it was also the first time a Funnybike had broken into the 6.6-second zone. According to the AMA/Prostar rulebook, national record can only be set if another run backs it up within one percent. Due to weather conditions, Clark was not able to repeat.

With their eyes focused on National Trail Raceway, Clark and crew chief Rick Stetson are anxiously awaiting a chance to set the records straight and claim their mark. With them comes a brand new chassis, longer, lighter and carries a larger tire size. "Though we are coming with a new bike, we are optimistic that pre-race testing will allow us to work out the new bike bugs that are sure to happen" said Clark.

In 1997, the Clark-Stetson duo took top qualifier honors six times, ran the quickest elapsed time of the event six times, and racked up an impressive five event wins. They quickly became nicknamed by other racers as "the Funnybike Terrorists".

Clark, 39, makes his home in Des Moines, Iowa, where he owns his own auto body shop. A quick glance at his motorcycle shows is attention to detail and workmanship.
