Rocca and Athey Claim Molson Export Extreme Canadian Racing Championship

Cayuga, Ontario, Canada. - In the baseball oriented movie, "Major League 2", character Jack Parkman warned a rookie ballplayer that it is wise to move when he sees a train coming down the track. Someone should have warned the contestants during the recently completed Molson Export Extreme Canadian Racing Championship hosted by Cayuga Dragway in Cayuga, Ontario, Canada. Team owner Johnny Rocca and his driver Paul Athey combined for their first win as a team when they steamrolled the field with their Mohegan Sun-sponsored 1951 Mercury.

Athey's final round opponent was veteran Canadian doorslammer pilot Kasey Janzen. This marked the second year in a row that Rocca's and Janzen's machines met in the final round. Needless to say, Rocca was proud of his driver.

"Paul did a masterful job of driving this machine all weekend," explained Rocca. "He has come a long way in a short period of time and I am proud of him. We had an interesting weekend and the track was sometimes tricky to navigate. Through it all, Paul drove like a pro."

The fact that Janzen had lane choice in the final didn't deter Athey, who in his best words, "won a skating match."

"This is a pleasing win," explained Athey, who made the switch from Pro Funny Cars to a Pro Modified this season. "I have waited a long time to win a Pro Modified race and I'm glad that I have that monkey off of my back. I feel confident in saying that this win will serve as a springboard for more victories in the future."

As always, the team assures the racing community that their efforts couldn't be possible without the tremendous support of the Mohegan Sun Casinos (www.mohegansun.com) and the Somerset Refinery (www.somersetoilrefinery.com).
