GREENSBORO, NC.- The 2000 season may have ended on Sunday, but 2001 began on Monday for Pro Modified racer Dale Brinsfield. There'll be no long winter nap for the Greensboro, NC.-based, Import business owner. Instead, the veteran racer plans to do plenty of research and development as well as a complete extermination of his trademark 1968 Camaro.

Now we know you may be familiar with the research and development terms, but one has to wonder what the extermination thing is all about.

"We're getting rid of the gremlins," Brinsfield said with a smile. "The silly stuff has gotten the best of us for the last two seasons and I'm tired of it. When people have insect pests, they call an exterminator. When racers have gremlins, they have to get rid of them by themselves."

Brinsfield continued, "I have to keep an upbeat and humorous side about this to make it bearable for us. The only way to smooth out the wrinkled edges is to get out here and test and work through the ailments. I am very much aware that when you do have problems like we encountered this year, sometimes you just have to accept them as a part of racing. You might accept them, but you'll never like them."

At the recently completed CARQUEST Autumn Nationals in Rockingham, Brinsfield fell short of making the quickest Pro Modified field in the history of the ten-year old category.

He's had plenty of good times though as he's been a past Sportsman of the Year award winner and finished in the top ten of the Pro Modified points chase in 1998.

He's yet to win a national event and there's always next season. As for Brinsfield, there's this season to win one. His championship pursuit began the day the 2000 season ended.
