Spiering Hot at Pro Mod Meltdown In Grand Bend

Grand Bend, Ontario - In just three short weeks the ToyzShop Motorsports Pro Mod Team comprised of team owner and driver Carl Spiering and car owner Dave Persico along with their crew have managed to take a second victory in competition in a row.

"This event here at Grand Bend was a chance for us to test the car further with it being so new and for me to get some seat time. You always go into competition looking for a win but whenever we get the opportunity to do it at home it is always great." Stated Spiering.

This was actually the ECW Pro Mod Meltdown, with support from Spiering's sponsor from last year for this event. On hand were Tommy Dreamer, and the ECW Monster Truck put on a great show for the fans.

Qualifying started simply enough with Spiering pulling the Hugger Orange Cutler-Hammer/Pace American '57 Chevy from the lanes and doing a giant burnout for the fans. It was just after that things got a little hairy, some oil got underneath the tire of the car while under full throttle and Carl did the driving job of his life saving himself and the vehicle from destruction. The car went left, right, on two wheels and crossed the centerline then back again under control to coast to the finish. After checking the car over and seeing no danger or damage the team went out for the next qualifying sessions and took the number one position with a 6.40 seconds.

First round of eliminations could have had a very different result as Carl faced Super Chevy stalwart, Mel Eaves. When the tree came down it was Spiering all the way as Eaves faced severe tire shake that he had been battling all weekend. Second round of competition was Spiering versus Gary Irving. Both cars left the lights well, then Irving had tire shake, then Spiering lifted slightly but it was Carl that took the win in the end. Getting ready for final round, the temperature was checked in at 103 degrees without humidity so you know it was hot and track conditions were getting a little bit tricky. In the final round Carl was paired against a fellow Canadian, Diego Gubert, who qualified well off Spiering's 6.40 but in Pro Modified racing almost anything can happen. The tree lit up and both cars gave everything that the racetrack could handle and it was Spiering's win light that came on.

Special mention to the sponsors that were on hand for the weekend; Cutler-Hammer, www.johnbear.com, The Trailer Shop, and Dave's Automotive, thank you for being there.
