200 MPH RUNS KEEP IOANNOU AT TOP OF PRO RWD - Consistent top speeds have helped Bullish Motor Racing driver George Ioannou maintain his top position in the Pro RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) division as the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series heads to Dallas to begin the second half of the season. The record-setting StreetGlow Toyota Solara and its sister car, driven by teammate and Bullish Motor Racing owner Ara Arslanian, have set the fastest speeds on the track nearly every weekend. At the last event at The Strip in Las Vegas, the two Toyota drag racers put on a great show when they went head-to-head in the first elimination round. Arslanian narrowly beat his teammate as they both ran over 200 mph. With his two event victories and four elimination-round appearances, Ioannou leads the Pro RWD field with 447 points. Behind Ioannou is Turbonetics Toyota Celica racer Matt Scranton (second), Grant Downing (fourth) in the Venom Racing Toyota Tundra, and Arslanian, who moved up from eighth to seventh after Las Vegas.
SCRANTON'S TOYOTA CELICA WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE - With a win in the first round of 2003 and two other final round appearances, Scranton Bros. Racing Turbonetics Toyota Celica driver Matt Scranton is only seven points behind Ioannou in the Pro RWD standings headed into this weekend's race in Dallas. In July's event in Las Vegas, he officially qualified for the final round with a new methanol fuel system in his Celica, but mechanical problems kept him from making the start. Scranton won last year's Dallas event on his way to an undefeated season and the Pro V8 championship. Sitting in second position with five races left, Scranton is on track to challenge for the Pro RWD championship in his new class.
RADO HOPES QUALIFYING SPEED CAN CARRY HIM TO FIRST PRO FWD WIN OF 2003 - World Racing Toyota Celica drag racer Christian Rado has been the fastest qualifier in the last two events in the Pro FWD (Front Wheel Drive) division, and the Reading, Pa., native expects to win going into every race weekend despite nagging mechanical gremlins. In Las Vegas, Rado was part of a rare double loss in the first elimination round as neither he nor his competitor could start the race. The veteran drag racer is comfortably in second place in the Pro FWD class with 339 points and looks to challenge for the championship with continued fast runs and improved consistency.
STRONG TOYOTA PRESENCE IN MODIFIED TOP 10 -Venom Racing Toyota Supra driver Jimmy O'Connor leads the charge as Toyota drag racers continue to occupy three of the top four and five of the top 10 in the Modified division standings. O'Connor is in second with a win at Englishtown and three final-round appearances, including the last event in Las Vegas. Luis Carujo, who made the finals in Gainesville in his 1985 Toyota Corolla, is in third and Alex Dieguez in fourth.
