It was announced at the Essen Motorshow that DTM will return to Great Britain in 2002. Donington Park hosted the German touring car series in the early nineties and will be the venue for the race on May 19th. It joins Zandvoort in Holland, A1-Ring in Austria and Zolder in Belgium as away races for the season.
Next year's DTM calender has been altered slightly due to clashes with other events. The season's finale at Hockenheim is scheduled for October 6th but could be changed to October 20th if the Sachsenring or Lausitz date on July 2nd doesn't take place due to clashing with the Nurburgring 24 hours.
One of the east German circuits seems likely to get removed from the calender, either Oschersleben or Sachsenring are possible choices.
Mercedes has confirmed it is likely to run nine cars next year, including four new-shaped CLKs. Drivers Bernd Schneider, Jean Alesi, Uwe Alzen, Peter Dumbreck, Marcel Fassler and Thomas Jager were also confirmed.
