GERMAN DTM SERIES TO FILL "ON THE LIMIT" VOID
The long established German Touring Car Masters (DTM) series has stepped into the breach to fill a void in the popular motorsport highlights package, On the Limit, broadcast on SABC 3 Topsport.
On The Limit, presented by 'Hagan', provides an exciting roundup of international motorsport, but delays in obtaining Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) material from the United States has forced a change in content. The void will be filled by highlights from the German series, which features a battle between German manufacturers Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel.
The DTM series also features some of the world's top Touring Car and Sports Car drivers with a smattering of former Formula One stars. Jean Alesi, driving for the Mercedes-Benz AMG team currently lies second in the championship after four rounds.
Other top stars like Karl Wendlinger, Bernd Schneider, Jo Winkelhock, Laurent Aiello and Alain Menu also feature in a series that has a long history of providing for hugely entertaining racing. Aiello tops the championship with Alesi, Mattias Ekstrom and Schneider hot on his heels.
"The German series started on April 21, so we will be playing catch up," said a spokesperson for the On The Limit producers. "Highlights will be broadcast in On the Limit on Sundays, and on selected occasions after F1 qualifying sessions."
"Missing out on the American off-road series is disappointing, but the DTM series adds balance to an already exciting line-up which includes the Bankfin Off-Road Championship, Australian V8 Supercars and the Australian Rally Championship."
Highlights of the first round of the DTM series held at Hockenheimring will be broadcast in On the Limit this Sunday, 30 June with repeats on Monday, 1 July at 17h00 and 23h00 on A2A (DSTV) and Tuesday, 2 July at 22h50 on SABC3.
