Van der Zande hampered by strategy
Renger van der Zande press release
Renger van der Zande endured a challenging race at Brands Hatch on Sunday, with the Dutchman losing time at the expense of a dry setup when heavy rain began to fall. The opportunity for a strong result was therefore gone, leaving van der Zande to take 15th at the chequered flag.
"This was my worst race of recent times," the Mercedes driver explained.
"With a car too stiff, designed for different circumstances, I could hardly turn in the race. In the morning warm-up session on a dry track I was strong, but the race started with a poor getaway.
I lost two places, because we agreed that I would start in second gear. That did not work.
"Then it was a matter of staying on-track in the wet. It was very frustrating.
I had a critical moment after the first tyre change, when I went side by side with Timo Scheider out the pits.
I was on the right side, but it was tricky. I will soon forget this race and look ahead to Oschersleben, about fourteen days away. "
