Van Der Zande Impresses At Munich
Olympiastadion Munchen
Renger van der Zande enjoyed his biggest success of the season so far at Munich on Saturday, performing above expectations in front of a packed crowd.
Racing on the specially designed Olympic Stadium course, the young Dutchman beat many big names until confusion during a pit-stop threw him out of contention. He went on to record a superb third place, the first time he has climbed onto the DTM podium.
"What a great event this is," van der Zande said afterwards. "And it was not at all bad. In the knock-out battles I beat men like Gary Paffett and David Coulthard and I made it into the top four. In the pre-final I had three runs against Bruno Spengler. I won the first round, the second round went to him, then in the third round I had a pit-stop and I was called into the wrong box by my engineer. But, this can happen because with all of these curves it’s very confusing."
"Today, the Audi and Mercedes drivers fight together. I can't wait! Bring it on!"
